Fire Prevention

Travis County Emergency Services District No.12 has adopted the 2015 International Fire Code (IFC) Effective July 1, 2016. Applications received on or after this date shall adhere to the content of this code.
The 2009 International Fire Code (IFC) Effective time frame; May 1, 2013 thru June 30, 2016.

Permitting & Compliance

ESD12 requires a permit before beginning construction. This applies to new commercial and public buildings, as well as any existing facility for which use has changed or that will sustain 50 percent or greater construction alteration or $50,000.

Any construction that occurs on a site or property prior to permitting will result in any associated fees being doubled.
 

Key Boxes. Sec 506. IFC2009 ​(ALL Commercial structures are required to have a Knox Box access system.)

506.1 Where required. Where access to or within a structure or an area is restricted because of secured openings or where immediate access is necessary for life-saving or fire-fighting purposes, the fire code official is authorized to require a key box to be installed in an approved location. The key box shall be of an approved type listed in accordance with UL 1037, and shall contain keys to gain necessary access as required by the fire code official.

506.1.1 Locks. An approved lock shall be installed on gates or similar barriers where required by the fire code official.
